Archives For worship

Every blessing from God is one temptation away from becoming an idol that offends God.  Stop.  Do you believe that?  You should.  It’s true.

The Bible teaches us that God chooses to bless His people (Ephesians 1:3).  Even when they don’t deserve it, God blesses.  The problem is that people do what people have been doing for thousands of years, we take the blessing, elevate it above our worship of God, and end up becoming fools.  By the way, that’s not opinion, it’s fact.  Read it. The moment we elevate the blessing ABOVE the Blesser, it becomes an idol.

Blessing is best received into hands that are already open and elevated in WORSHIP.  The question is, Continue Reading…

When you read about idolatry and worship, do you think about possessions and wealth?  Understanding the difference between idolatry and worship lays a foundation for understanding the tithe. Idolatry is the practice of seeking pleasure, power or provision through means other than the God of the Bible, while worship is the practice of living a grateful lifestyle, which honors and obeys Him.

In the beginning, God established Adam and Eve with abundant provision, harmonious relationships and meaningful Continue Reading…

Powerful words from Charles Spurgeon about our single desire.

“To whom be glory for ever. Amen”

— Romans 11:36

“To whom be glory for ever.” This should be the single desire of the Christian. All other wishes must be subservient and tributary to this one. The Christian may wish for prosperity in his business, but only so far as it may help him to promote this—“To him be glory for ever.” He may desire to attain more gifts and more graces, but it should only be that “To him may be glory for ever.” You are not acting as you ought to do when you are moved by any other motive than a single eye to your Lord’s glory. As a Christian, you are “of God, and through God,” then live “to God.” Let nothing ever set your heart beating so mightily as love to him. Let this ambition fire your soul; be this the foundation of every enterprise upon which you enter, and this your sustaining motive whenever your zeal would grow chill; make God your only object. Depend upon it, where self begins sorrow begins; but if God be my supreme delight and only object, Continue Reading…

4 Reasons to Fast*

Pastor Jon —  January 5, 2011 — Leave a comment

Greetings Living Water family. Tonight was an incredible catalyst night as we move into 2011. We began our 2 week time of prayer and fasting to Contend for Breakthrough!

I am so proud of our team who led worship tonight. I never grow tired of being led into worship by people that I know have as much passion for Jesus in private and they do in public. THANK YOU Cheri, Cody and Kenzi along with the rest of the team.

You can find more info about the fast here at the church website.

Below are several “reasons to fast” that came from a book that I highly recommend by Pastor Jack Hayford.

I think any of us could find ourselves in one of these four seasons of life, and could be motivated to seek the Lord through prayer and fasting. Read through the scriptures and be challenged and encouraged.

May the Lord bless you!
Contending with you,

Pastor Jon

Like anyone who has been in the church world for a number of years, I’ve heard the cry over and over that the church needs to be more contemporary.  We need contemporary service, contemporary speakers and DEFINITELY contemporary music.  I am less and less convinced Continue Reading…

Sunday Evening Thoughts…

Pastor Jon —  June 20, 2010 — 1 Comment

This was a great Father’s Day weekend! After 6 great services and a relaxing time with some friends this afternoon I’m ready to wind down and crash. Here are some of my highlights from the weekend.

-It was a great weekend to honor dads…and dads need to be honored. We also took time to pray for men who may not be biological dads, but Continue Reading…

Over the last week some great things have happened.  I’ve also been challenged to ponder several issues due to current questions and events.  I’d love your input.

  • I got to meet Aaron Keys at Catalyst West. – Aaron led worship for part of the conference and it blew me away.  This man is FULL of the scripture and it POURED out of him when he led.  When I spoke with him I could tell his passion for Jesus and Discipleship are authentic and DEEP.  Take a few minutes to read more about him, buy his stuff and support a great worship pastor.  My favorite statement that he made Continue Reading…

I probably say it most weekends, but this was a great weekend at Living Water! Here are some of my hightlights:

  • When I finished my first draft of speaking notes on Thursday, I had about 90 minutes worth of material.  I prayed it through and narrowed it down to 1 of what was going to be 3 points.  From that point forward I felt like I was going to explode because of what God wanted to do over the weekend!  I love it when God does it like that.
  • There was a powerful prophetic word about people who where trapped in a “phone booth” shaped prison because of unforgiveness.
  • Dozens of people responded to Jesus and stepped out of the prison of unforgiveness and it was awesome.  Worship EXPLODED Continue Reading…
