Archives For Holy Spirit

God wants us to live in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit lives in us we are given life and Jesus is glorified. Just as there is a difference between getting married and being married, there is a difference between coming to Jesus and living for Him; the first is easy, while the second is much more difficult. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become a child of God and our nature changes. How we walk after that determines the journey we take and involves a transition in the way we think. There are several ingredients of a Spirit formed life that help us stay filled with the Spirit.

God is stretching us so our faith rests in His power, and not in the wisdom of man. He wants to bless our lives and desires for us to understand and embrace the gifts of the Holy Spirit. When used within the church they need to be used in an orderly manner to prevent becoming an obstacle for others coming to Christ. The gifts are an expression and demonstration of God, bringing the power of the Spirit to broken people, and used properly, they create a beautiful gathering of God’s people.

In Peter’s sermon at Pentecost he refers to a prophesy made by the prophet Joel to explain what was being experienced by the people: “in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit and they shall Continue Reading…

Think “love is all you need”? Think again…

Do I own the gifts of the Holy Spirit or deliver the gifts?  Watch and find out…

People of every culture look to someone or something to break into the ordinary and intervene in extraordinary ways. The best humanistic offering is a version of pop psychology, while the worst is a demonic counterfeit. Yet in God’s design, He offers exactly what we need through the gifts from the Holy Spirit, as well as uses available Christ-followers to deliver those gifts with extraordinary power.

The first test of the fullness of the Holy Spirit in our lives is lordship. Our lordship to Christ will transcend the barriers of class, culture, even our own insecurity, flaws and failings. The Gospel levels the playing field by reminding us that God is able and willing to interrupt our natural life with the supernatural.

In understanding the spiritual gifts we must realize that the best spiritual gift is the gift we need for the current specific situation. We don’t “own” the gifts we are given, we distribute them. God is not impressed by our individual accomplishments or self promotion, but wants all the gifts to be expressed in a spirit of love. Every Christian is a candidate to distribute any of the gifts, but love is the container from which the gifts are distributed. Repentance, forgiveness and humility help to enlarge our capacity to love and be used by the Holy Spirit to minister to others.  Watch the Entire Message Here…

[Salvation is a unity] – a single piece, and yet a flowing stream. I become a Christian once for all on the basis of the finished work of Christ through faith; that is justification. [But] the Christian life, sanctification, operates on the same basis, but moment by moment. There is the same base (Christ’s work) and the same instrument (faith). The only difference is that one is once for all and the other is moment by moment. The whole unity of Biblical teachings stands solid at this place. If we try to live the Christian life in our own strength, we will have sorrow; but if we live in this way, we will not only serve the Lord, but in place of sorrow He will be our song. That is the difference. The how of Christian life is the power of the crucified and risen Lord, through the agency of the indwelling Holy Spirit, by faith moment by moment (True Spirituality in The Complete Works, Vol. 3, p. 273).

The Mission of Missions

Pastor Jon —  May 11, 2011 — 1 Comment

This morning I woke up thinking about the mission of missions and the power of the Holy Spirit…  You can’t have an effective missions movement without the Holy Spirit.

Why?
First, if you did not hear the message last weekend from Pastor Burt, you should go listen to it – it was awesome.  Pastor taught about gifts Continue Reading…
