Pastors, how do we keep people close to Jesus when there are so many alternatives in the world? Some people try to build fences made of rules and standards that keep the “good” people in and the “bad” people out. The other option is to dig wells. What will you do?

Here’s a parable I borrowed from Deb Hirsch,

(It takes place)…between a farmer and a Japanese tourist in the Australian outback. The tourist is taken aback with the sheer vastness of the outback and comments to the farmer that as far as he can see, he can’t see any fences. The tourist asks the farmer how he can possibly keep his sheep in without fences. The farmer replies that they don’t need to build fences, they just dig wells and the sheep don’t wander very far. There’s never been a greater need for followers of Jesus to dig wells with the true Gospel of Jesus.  It’s the only thing that will quench the thirst of the people in our city.

If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. – Jesus (John 7:37)

…whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. – Jesus (John 4:14)

As many of you know, Oklahoma was recently devastated by a tornado that stole lives, wrecked homes, and left many people hurting both physically and emotionally. As Living Water, and as a Foursquare Family, we are dedicated to being a faithful presence in our community and the world at large.

Watch the short video below to see how we are responding to this tragedy, and how you can be involved.

Living Water is sending a group of faithful members to go bless, rebuild, and minister to those who are hurting in Oklahoma. You can help by contributing financially and prayerfully. We have a chance to reach out to people whose lives have been suddenly and unexpectedly devastated by something entirely out of their control. We are called to respond based on the Holy Spirit’s leading, not the tug of our emotions, so I encourage you to pray about how much the Lord is asking you to give in this situation.

Check back to see testimonies from the Oklahoma Missions Trip Team, and join me in praying for them.

Jesus talked about money a lot (20-30% of His teaching is about possessions/money).  The problem is, many people don’t like to hear about money in church. Jesus clearly linked possessions and heart when He said,

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Luke 12:34

I am incredibly encouraged by the number of people who have shared with me the freedom and confidence they have experienced once they began to trust the Lord with their possessions and money.

Are you willing to trust the Lord with something as tangible as possessions and money?  Are you confident in your understanding about what the Bible calls Christ followers to embrace about giving?  Do you understand how tithing should be viewed as New Testament Christians?  Do you love to be generous?

If the answer is “yes” to any of those questions, stick around the next couple weeks to learn more from the Bible.

Living Water Family…  If you didn’t hear the Financial Update from the past weekend you can view it here.  “Your Kingdom Come: Financial Update” (The first part of the message is the financial update)

Pastor Mike Barker our online campus pastor, preached a message at Living Water about the necessity of both FAITH and WORKS in order for God’s Church to be effective. How do they function together? Take a drink of this and find out!

and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what goodt is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:16-17

How have faith and works come together for you? Comment bellow

Dr. Glenn Burris spoke in Olympia this weekend and brought a message that was powerful and prophetic. This is a message every CITY CHANGING CHURCH needs to hear. I believe his words were uniquely appropriate for the Church of Living Water. Here are the 5 things a city changing church MUST DO!

1. Challenge the status quo. Be an innovator.

The church would be better off if there were more people who got angry when the church looses its focus on the mission.

I think if we could see him from Jesus perspective we would see so much more. In the midst of his failing body, there is a heart after God and a spirit that has been made alive in Jesus.

Happy Thanksgiving!  This weekend was our weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving around the Living Water community.  Pastor Burt preached the message and I got to enjoy spending time at both campuses.  Here are some of my highlights:
