500 TWEETS
This blog post will become my 500th TWEET. I've been using Twitter for about 3 months now so I guess I average about 5 TWEETS a day. I love staying connected with people I know or am interested in through the TWITTER world. If you're new to TWITTER, here's a great tutorial from the people at CommonCraft.
Stop by TWITTER and Follow Me to stay up on the latest.
Over the last couple years I've become a novice blogger and attempted to connect with the people I care about and share interests with online. I've found a couple apps/online services that make it a little easier and more fun to do what I want to do. Let me know if you have better options, I think these are the absolute best at what they do.
-What it does: Vimeo gives you a place to upload and share your videos. Check out my channel.
-Why I like it: I like it better than Youtube or Google Video because of its simple and customizable player that you can embed in your site. The best part about Vimeo is that if viewers view you video on the Vimeo site, they won't be bombarded by "related videos" that may be distasteful or inappropriate.
-What it does: TWITTER is all about "micro-blogging". It allows you to "follow" your friends or people of interest and view thier 140 character (or less) comments. Most people "TWEET" 2-20 times a day. TWITTER is an awesome way to distribute links to your blog posts or videos. CommonCraft has an awsome tutorial about TWITTER here. I use TWITTILATOR PRO on my iPhone and Twitterrific on my MBP. Want to FOLLOW ME?
-Why I like it: TWITTER is the original micro-blogging service. Others have followed, but I haven't found any that improve (other than Yammer, but that is specifically for the workplace).
-What it does: Streams video from your cell phone to the web and stores it. Not all phones are supported, but if your phone is, this is an awesome app. I have my Qik stream plugged straight into my blog so that it is instantly updated. Check out my feed here.
-Why I like it: There are at least two other options for live video streaming, namely Kyte.tv and Flixwagon. I've used Qik for 2-3 years and haven't seen anything from Kyte.tv or Flixagon that improve.
-What it does: Allows you to upload your video once, but distribute to multiple sites simultaneously. For example, I upload my video to Tubemogul.com and tell it to publish it at YouTube, Google Video and Vimeo all at the same time. Makes like easier.
-Why I like it: Even though Vimeo is my embedded player of choice, it doesn't hurt to get your videos onto more than one site. With Tubemogul.com it's a non issue because it does the time consuming work for me.
-What it does: Hosts your blog.
-Why I like it: TypePad is the only service I've used, but after talking with others who use services such as Blogger and WordPress I think TypePad offers the best service out there. The only drawback is that it's not a free serivce. But, if you want great, intuative features that are constantly being updated, TypePad is hard to beat. Subscribe to my TypePad Blog Here.
UPDATED – Google Calendar and iCal
Recently, I talked about Google Labs new development to make Syncing possible, without 3rd party apps, between iCal and Google Calendar. Currently, I use Spanning Sync to keep everything up to date on my iPhone, Google Cal, iCal and MobileMe. Spanning Sync is a 3rd party app that has done a great job for me.
After I wrote about Google Labs new Syncing development, I received a comment from one of the Spanning Syncs people who shared some insightful comments. After further research, I'm sticking with Spanning Sync until more of the bugs get worked out. View his blog post comparing Google Sync with Spanning Sync.
If you are going to start using Spanning Sync, use this link and it helps me out AND SAVES YOU $5!
Thanks Charlie.
Google Calendar and iCal
I fired Microsoft Entourage a few months ago and switched to Google Calendar. The problem was keeping my iPhone calendar synced up with Google Cal. I have been using Spanning Sync combined with MobileMe to do the job, but thanks to Google Labs, they've figured figured out how to do it their own way. If you need a similar solution, enjoy! Here's the tutorial from Google Labs.
Facebook Keys
Recently Facebook published their "keys" to getting the most out of their service. Nothing mind blowing, but some solid basic principals, that for the most part, translate to bloggers as well.
Here is my favorite recommendation, that helps you be in two (or three, or four) places at once.
* Use RSS feeds to centralize your Twittering and outside blogging.
Keys to Using Facebook
1) Make business personal
2) Update your Facebook Page frequently
3) Harness the power of News Feed
4) Choose the applications that are best for your business
5) Promote your Page through Facebook Ads
TWITTERholic
wonder who’s the man, or woman, in the world of twitter? This site lists the top 100 twitterers and links to their sites. It was interesting to me how many of the popular blogs were highly "vodcasts".
QUESTION:
Would you rather listen to someone’s thoughts or read them?
