In response to the disaster in Haiti, this is what the Living Water family is doing.  Please pray with me for the tens of thousands who have been displaced and devastated.

Living Water cares about the 7.0 earthquake which struck Haiti on January 12th. Our hearts go out to the Haitian people affected by this tragedy. As a church we encourage you to respond to this situation in the following ways:

  • Pray for Haiti using these prayer points.
  • Participate in the Living Water Haiti Relief Offering or give a special gift in a regular offering.
  • Consider going to Haiti with Living Water's Relief Team.
  • Check out the Foursquare Missions (FMI) webpage for news about
Foursquare relief efforts and Foursquare missionaries in Haiti and the surrounding areas.
  • Pray for Living Water Missionaries to the Dominican Republic Rich and Kirsten Root.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for the people of Haiti as they deal with the aftermath of the earthquake, ask the Lord to comfort those who are injured and mourning.
  • Pray for rescue efforts to find survivors trapped in destroyed buildings and for communication links and power supplies to be restored quickly.
  • Pray that the country of Haiti would have a receptiveness to the message of the Gospel in the midst of this tragedy.
  • Pray for the relief efforts of the Foursquare family and the Foursquare missionaries in the area that they would have wisdom to know how to minister to those around them.
  • Pray for a swift and generous response from the international community to help this disaster-prone poor country.

Here are some classic mistakes from church bulletins.  Enjoy.  It makes me very thankful for the team that proofreads ours.

  • The outreach committee has enlisted 25 visitors to make calls on people who are not afflicted with any church.
  • The audience is asked to remain seated until the end of the recession.
  • Low Self-esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 to 8:30 p.m.  Please use the back door.
  • For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.
  • The Rev. Merriwether spoke briefly, much to the delight of the audience.
  • Due to the Rector's illness, Wednesday's healing services will be discontinued until further notice.
  • The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the church basement on Friday at 7 p.m. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.
  • The concert held in Fellowship Hall was a great success. Special thanks are due to the minister's daughter, who labored the whole evening at the piano, which as usual fell upon her.
  • Potluck supper: prayer and medication to follow.
  • Don't let worry kill you off – let the church help.
  • The choir invites any member of the congregation who enjoys sinning to join the choir
  • Weight Watchers will meet at 7 p.m. Please use large double door at the side entrance.

If I only would have known this before Black Friday…

the Boys  Tonight we got updated, "What I want to be when I grow up" from the kids…  Here they are:

Sam: Not sure (He's tends towards the perfectionist side of life.  Doesn't want to commit too early.)

Andrew: An archeologist – A pastor – An artist (He said that way he'll be rich.  I hate to break his heart.)

Levi: A cowboy – A worker cowboy – A guitar player – a karate guy

As parents some of the most important things we pray for is that they'll grow up and love Jesus, live faithfully and passionately.

My prayer for parents out there is that you would know that God has not called you to determine your child's destiny, nor has He given you the choice to pick what raw material your child comes with.  He has called you to train your child to embrace the unique shape that God has for her/him.

It's a big job, but they never said parenting was for wimps.  You can do it, by the grace of God.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Jon

The Handyman Series

November 17, 2009 — Leave a comment

Photo Today was an awesome day.  Not only did I get to spend an extra “Family Day” at home, I exercised my Handyman Skills.  You might be thinking, “Handy Man Skills, is this Jon Cobler we’re talking about?”  To quiet the skeptics I would like to share, in a step-by-step manner, exactly what I did.  For those of you “less Handy” guys out there, you can consider this a step-by-step guide to being awesome.
